University Supervisor Field Experience
University supervisors play a key role in cultivating teacher candidate self-efficacy and progress, as well as communicating with cooperating teachers.
Who Can Be a University Supervisor?
A faculty member, adjunct instructor, graduate assistant, or individual with specific qualifications and certifications may be selected as a supervisor for our preservice teachers (practicum students) and teacher candidates (student teachers). In addition to being an expert educator in your field, the ability to coach, collaborate and communicate is needed. Visiting school sites and working with technology such as SWIVLs and a variety of documents/functions are also big parts of the job. If you are interested in being considered a university supervisor for a future semester, please send your resume and evidence of certifications to Vasilika Tsichlis at soefieldoffice@slu.edu. Special note: The university supervisor needs to have certification in specific areas which align with the practicum/student teacher's area of study.
What Does the Role of University Supervisor Entail?
A university supervisor evaluates the progress of one or more practicum students and/or student teachers, using the Missouri Educator Evaluation System Missouri Educator Evaluation System (MEES) Assessment Rubric. This entails conducting several observations with pre and post conferencing, as well as viewing and giving feedback on lesson plans and other artifacts. In addition, the university supervisor will lead the team of SLU student and cooperating teacher, providing training and assistance, and collecting documentation as needed.
