Scholarships for Transfer Students
Saint Louis University offers a number of merit-based scholarships for transfer students. To qualify for these awards, you must meet scholarship-specific requirements and be:
- Admitted to SLU as a traditional full-time undergraduate
- Seeking your first bachelor’s degree
- Attending SLU for the first time
GPA requirements for scholarships will be calculated based on your cumulative GPA at the time of your application.
Jesuit Transfer Scholarship
$14,000 to $22,000 per year
This is a tiered scholarship with the exact amount awarded dependent on your cumulative GPA. It is renewable over a maximum of 10 semesters or until a bachelor's degree is completed, whichever occurs first.
John Paul Fechter Service Scholarship
$10,000 per year
The John Paul Fechter Service Scholarship recognizes transfer students who are committed to community service. It is renewable over a maximum of 10 semesters or until a bachelor's degree is completed, whichever occurs first. Recipients must complete 40 hours of service per semester. Requirements include:
- Students must be in good academic standing and accepted to Saint Louis University
- Completion of at least 30 transferable college credit hours
- Demonstration of significant involvement in community service
- Application Instructions:
- Complete and submit SLU’s online application for admission and all required materials (transcripts, etc.) by June 1.
Complete and submit the separate John Paul Fechter Service Scholarship application and all required materials by June 1.

A+ Award
$3,000 per year
The A+ Award has a value of $3,000 per year and can be combined with other merit-based University scholarships. This award is available to transfer students who were designated as A+ eligible with their high school and attending an A+ participating community college in Missouri. It is renewable over a maximum of 10 semesters or until a bachelor's degree is completed, whichever occurs first.
Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship
Minimum $3,000 per year
The Martin Luther King Jr. scholarship is a competitive scholarship available to both transfer and freshman applicants. The King Scholarship has an award value of at least $3,000 per year (in addition to any previously awarded SLU scholarship(s) and keeping within SLU scholarship policies). It is renewable over a maximum of 10 semesters or until a bachelor's degree is completed, whichever occurs first.
Requirements include:
- 3.0 cumulative GPA in previous college coursework
- Separate application
Community College Award
$2,000 per year
The Community College Award has a value of $2,000 per year and can be combined with other merit-based University scholarships. This award is available to transfer students who are currently attending or most recently attended a community college. It is renewable over a maximum of 10 semesters or until a bachelor's degree is completed, whichever occurs first.
Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship
$1,000 per year
The Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship is renewable over a maximum of 10 semesters or until a bachelor's degree is completed, whichever occurs first. This scholarship may be combined with other SLU scholarships. Requirements include:
- 3.0 cumulative GPA in previous college coursework
- Letter sent to the Office of Admission by your Phi Theta Kappa advisor confirming your good standing
Billiken, Ignatian, University or Vice Presidents' Scholarships
$10,000 to $25,000 per year
If you are transfer student who has completed fewer than 24 credit hours, you may be considered for one of the freshman merit-based scholarships listed above. These scholarships are awarded at the discretion of the University and are renewable over a maximum of 10 semesters or until a bachelor's degree is completed, whichever occurs first.
Need-Based Financial Aid
To apply for need-based financial aid, file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at fafsa.ed.gov. Automatic consideration for government sourced and SLU sourced need-based financial aid is completed once admitted to SLU. The FAFSA priority deadline is Feb 1.
