Updated Guidance for the Vertebrate Animals Section (VAS) on Grants Using Vertebrate Animals

A completed Vertebrate Animals Section (VAS) is required for  Public Health Service (PHS) supported research using live vertebrate animals. The National Institutes of Health Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare (OLAW) has just released an online training module on the VAS in grant applications which can be completed in 20 to 30 minutes. This information is intended to assist investigators in recognizing both the required components of the VAS and the components that are no longer required, with the goals of:

  •  increasing the number of applications deemed acceptable
  • reducing time spent submitting and reviewing extraneous information

For more information,  visit the OLAW VAS website.

If you would like someone to review your VAS prior to submitting your grant, please send your VAS to iacuc-office@slu.edu.
