Research

My research focuses on transcription (the process of transcribing the genetic information from DNA to RNA). Transcription is regulated in different rate-limiting steps. My research focuses on the early steps in the recruitment and function of transcription factors and coregulators (coactivators and corepressors). For coregulators, we study scaffold proteins as well as enzymes such as histone deacetylases (HDACs) and histone acetyltransferases (HATs).

Our research uses interdisciplinary tools encompassing both reductive and systems approaches, such as assays for measuring protein-protein and protein-DNA interactions, assays for measuring transcription rates of model and natural genes, structure-functional studies by mutagenesis and molecular dynamics simulations, genome-wide analysis of chromatin occupancy (ChIP-Seq) and gene transcription at the global (RNA-Seq) and single-cell levels (scRNA-Seq), mouse knockouts, modeling disease progression using patient-derived xenografts (PDXs), and analysis of patient samples, including those available in the TCGA and TARGET datasets.
