Education at the Bander Center

The Saint Louis University Bander Center for Medical Business Ethics provides learning opportunities for physicians across the full span of their careers, from the first year of medical school through retirement.

Current educational activities include: hosting an annual endowed lecture within the Department of Medicine's Grand Rounds; developing and disseminating a free medical business ethics casebook that can be used in undergraduate and graduate medical education; offering lectures, cases discussions and other learning opportunities to medical students at Saint Louis University.

Medical Student Education

The Bander Center is committed to education of physicians early in their careers and offers the following opportunities for undergraduate medical education:

  • Bander Center Director of Graduate Medical Education Erin Bakanas, M.D., directs a second-year course focused on end-of-life patient care, entitled “Death and Dying.”
  • Bander Center Director of Graduate Medical Education Erin Bakanas, M.D., directs a bimonthly ethics case review for the Department of Internal Medicine's third-year clerkship.
  • Bander Center Director of Graduate Medical Education Erin Bakanas, M.D., leads a fourth-year primary care capstone examining physician-pharmaceutical relationships, titled "Who's Buying Lunch?"
  • Talks at the medical school on topics in medical business ethics.
  • All medical students are welcome to attend the Bander Center Endowed Lecture Series.
  • We publish and distribute Exploring Integrity in Medicine: The Bander Center for Medical Business Ethics Casebook, which is ideal for use in small group settings in undergraduate education.
