Department of Economics
The Department of Economics at Saint Louis University offers a variety of graduate and undergraduate programs for students interested in pursuing a career path in economics.
Students are exposed to microeconomic issues that are relevant to decision-making for individuals, in private business and in formulating public policy, as well as macroeconomic issues, data and frameworks for examining the economies of the world and how they relate to each other.

Why Study Economics?
Students of economics learn the principles and methods that individuals and institutions, public and private, utilize to identify the costs and benefits associated with alternative decisions. In doing so, our students master a structured, pragmatic approach to solving problems.
Real-World Problems
Economics students at SLU are exposed to global macroeconomic issues such as the ramifications of the changes in the international economic environment on the growth and prosperity of nations. Through their coursework, our students encounter real-life scenarios that challenge them to think critically to solve actual economic problems. Our students learn the skills necessary to meet the challenges they’ll face in working in economics, and they will have the knowledge to develop innovative solutions.
