Research Interests

Hindi’s area of expertise includes non-linear behavior, modeling, and damage of reinforced and pre-stressed concrete elements under static, cyclic and seismic loadings, confinement of reinforced concrete bridge columns, low-cycle fatigue of bridge elements and reinforcement, behavior of bridges under vehicular live load. His research includes experimental, analytical and finite element modeling of bridges and structures. He has developed a damage model of R/C concrete bridge columns under seismic loading based on degraded energy. Hindi has served as a PI/Co-PI on many research projects sponsored by NSF, Caltrans, IDOT, MODOT, and internally. Hindi has supervised more than 20 graduate students’ research theses.

Labs and Facilities

Concrete and Materials Laboratory
A materials testing laboratory is available for developing design criteria and evaluating various types of building materials, such as concrete, masonry, wood, and steel. The laboratory includes facilities for performing many tests on concrete. A 500,000 lbs. capacity testing machine, smaller testing machines and other equipment are also available.
