Practice Areas

Dr. Joe Lyons is Assistant Professor of Security & Strategic Intelligence and Director of the Undergraduate Security & Strategic Intelligence program.  Dr. Lyons spent 14 years working in the U.S. intelligence community, beginning with appointment in 2001 with the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency.  Dr.  Lyons served multiple overseas tours as an intelligence officer before leaving NGA to pursue a university posting. He is a retired Information Dominance Warfare Officer with 27 years of military service in the EUCOM, CENTCOM and NORTHCOM areas of responsibility, serving in both the US Army and US Navy.  His most recent military position was Director of the Naval Intelligence Officer Basic Course. He has held various active duty and reserve positions including Executive Officer, Department Head, Division Officer, Intelligence Officer, ROTC instructor, Recruiter, and Observer-Controller. He earned his PhD in Public Policy Analysis and Administration at Saint Louis University and holds a BS in Political Science and Legal Studies and an MPA from Murray State University.  He is a graduate of the Joint Combined Warfare School at Joint Forces Staff College.
