Biostatistics Core
The Biostatistics Core within the AHEAD Institute is the epicenter of our research activities and the infrastructure that transforms our clients' research aims into tangible results.
The core is a comprehensive service center that guides primary investigators through their research project life cycle with the goal to submit abstracts and manuscripts for publication. Primary investigators who have questions about how to execute the statistical aspects of data collection, procurement, validation and analysis should complete a service request to utilize these services.
Our data managers and biostatisticians will meet with you to discuss how your project's data can best inform your research question. Together, we will create a plan for your project and dedicate our time and expertise to its successful completion.
Biostatistics Core services are offered at $150 per hour. All projects receive an initial one-hour complimentary consultation with a biostatistician and data manager, as needed.
The AHEAD Institute warehouses several large databases and assists in identifying, obtaining and maintaining data to meet your research needs. Additionally, our data managers and biostatisticians work with Epic electronic health records, investigator supplied data, retrospective chart reviews, and publicly available databases. The AHEAD team assists investigators in selecting the ideal data source for all research projects. For details about available data sources, click here.
Data management involves collecting, organizing, storing and maintaining data for our clients. Data managers Roxann Kirkwood and Irene Ryan serve as honest data brokers between primary investigators and the data sources housed at the AHEAD Institute.
Prior to data analysis, data managers provide the research team and biostatisticians with data cuts: manageable subsets of large databases. Subsequently, the biostatisticians transform the large, messier data into a tidy, analytic dataset to conduct the descriptive and statistical analyses.
Data analysis at the AHEAD Institute is performed using advanced statistical techniques and machine learning to obtain reliable and valid results. We validate data through rigorous quality checks, maintaining its integrity and robustness.
Our experienced biostatisticians conduct power analyses and feasibility studies to determine the appropriate number of subjects to recruit for prospective studies and to measure the number of existing cases of a specific condition or procedure.
Bivariate analyses are conducted to establish associations before progressing to complex multivariate analyses. In addition to common multivariate techniques such as linear regression and logistic regression, we offer expertise in Cox proportional hazards models, linear mixed models, principal components and latent class analyses, among others.
Upon completion of analysis, AHEAD biostatisticians can interpret results, visualize data, and write the methods and results sections of manuscripts to ensure that findings are accurately conveyed.
Abstract and manuscript submissions are often time-consuming aspects of the research process. AHEAD biostatisticians collaborate closely with investigators to draft, revise, and resubmit abstracts and manuscripts. Our goal is to achieve a successful scientific output for your project.
