Faculty Assembly

The main governing body for SLU’s School of Medicine faculty is the Faculty Assembly. Its function is to enable the faculty to participate in the shared governance of the School of Medicine (SOM) in an advisory capacity to the Dean. Its goal is to work collaboratively with institutional leaders to strengthen the mission of SOM.

The faculty in the School of Medicine is also represented in the university-wide body for all the faculty at Saint Louis University, the Faculty Senate. It is the primary means by which the faculty members of the University participate in the governance of the University as a whole.

School of Medicine faculty members provide service to the University and their colleagues by volunteering on a variety of committees. Some committees are filled by election, while others are populated by appointment. Faculty elections and committee appointments occur each spring.

The governing principles of the SLU faculty are outlined in the Faculty Manual.
