Center for Health Law Studies

Established in 1982, SLU LAW's Center for Health Law Studies was one of the first law school programs to focus on the intersection of the health care system and the legal system. For nearly two decades, the Center has earned the reputation as the nation's premier health law program.

The practice of health care law is complex and fast-paced. Under the direction of nationally renowned faculty and staff, the Center for Health Law Studies understands that educational experiences in health law must exist both in and out of the classroom.

In the classroom, students choose from the broadest range of foundational and specialized health law and policy courses and learn from faculty with more than 200 years of collective health law teaching experience. While earning their J.D., students have the opportunity to earn a concentration in health law. In addition, the Center offers an LL.M. in Health Law Studies for lawyers seeking an in-depth introduction to the practice of health law or those who wish to increase their exposure to new developments in health law.

Outside of the classroom, students gain significant practical experience working with complex health care regulations through externship placements in St. Louis and through our newly established Health Law Semester in Washington, D.C. For more than 40 years the Center for Health Law Studies has been providing the right combination of education and experience to allow our graduates to succeed.
