The New Collaborative for Humanistic Inquiry (CHI)
The College of Arts and Sciences at Saint Louis University is thrilled to announce a new initiative designed to fulfill one of our strategic research priorities, the Collaborative for Humanistic Inquiry (CHI). CHI supports faculty and student research and scholarship in a range of humanities and social science disciplines, as well as in humanistic-oriented natural science research. Additionally, it fosters collaboration among the nine college Centers of Scholarly Excellence. CHI will officially launch in fall 2024, with a celebratory event scheduled for the spring semester.
The College of Arts and Sciences at SLU has a well-established reputation for outstanding scholarship and leadership in the humanities. The Collaborative for Humanistic Inquiry offers a cohesive framework to unite our varied research foci across disciplines, fostering connections that deepen our understanding of society and the challenges of our increasingly complex world. I’m thrilled about the opportunities for collaboration that CHI presents for scholars engaged in cutting-edge humanistic research.
Dean Donna J. LaVoie, Ph.D.
CHI's nine research centers tackle a diverse range of complex topics, including the global impact of Catholicism, the ethical dimensions of artificial intelligence, and the role of religion in American public life. Each center boasts a strong record of research excellence, with several receiving competitive grants from organizations such as the National Endowment for the Humanities and the Henry Luce Foundation. The new integrative structure of CHI will enhance interdisciplinary collaboration within SLU and with other institutions, driving forward important questions about the human experience, both historical and contemporary, to shed light on our shared future.
