Spanish, Minor
Saint Louis University offers an undergraduate minor in Spanish on its campuses in St. Louis, Missouri, and Madrid, Spain.
Speaking a language other than English is necessary in an increasingly globalized, complex world. A minor in Spanish can complement nearly any major, especially those related to education, health sciences, law, international studies, political science, psychology, social work, sociology, biology or humanities, and can be completed at SLU with just 18 credits.
With the help of a team of dedicated, experienced instructors and mentors, Spanish minors at SLU build up connections with Hispanic cultures by refining their language skills in Spanish, developing intercultural competence, exploring the Hispanic cultural legacy and gaining familiarity with Spanish within professional contexts. Throughout their coursework, Spanish minors develop critical, analytical, and language skills.
Students may start the program at the 2000 level or 3000 level depending on their language and cultural proficiency. All students complete 18 credits.

Every minor is assigned a Spanish mentor who provides guidance and support within the program. All students are encouraged to contact and/or meet with their Spanish mentor at least once a year. Mentors in the Spanish program help minors make the most out of their learning experience.
Students can complete all or part of the Spanish minor at SLU's campus in Madrid.
Continuation Standards
No more than one SPAN or LLC course conducted in English will be counted toward the minor in Spanish. All courses for the Spanish minor must be completed with a grade of C or better.
Students who want to experience Spanish life and culture firsthand and put their language skills into practice outside the classroom can complete all or part of the Spanish minor at SLU’s campus in Madrid. You may also choose to take many of your general degree requirements, such as psychology, history and theology, in Spanish.
